Remember the last time you checked in to a luxury hotel after a long and exhaustive drive? Too tired to notice the exquisitely done reception, lobby areas and then (even!) your room, you put down your luggage and fell on the bed with arms spread like a butterfly. Now, with an iota of energy left, all you wanted (and could’ve done) was a warm shower to shake off the lethargy.
The moment you enter the bathroom, a gush of comfort, warmth and luxury engulfs your mind, melting away your boredom. You notice the sparkling basin & bowl, neatly stacked towels on the rack along other accessories to provide you with a warm and comforting experience.
In this article, we have highlighted those quintessential bathroom accessories along with the standard installation heights so that you can replicate that experience in your abode too.
Towel Bars/Rings
As a general rule, towel bars and other towel hardware should be conveniently located near each sink and bath fixture. Bars usually work best on the widest wall in the bathroom, installed at a height of 42″-48″ above the floor, providing easy access. Hotel-style towel racks (which incorporate towel bars and a top-shelf and are usually installed above the toilet) should be at least 48 inches above the floor.
Best suited for narrow walls, towel or robe hooks should be 70″ above the floor because of the length of towels and robes. It can be a single unit or multiple hooks, spaced 9″ apart. If installed above the vanity countertop, towel rings should be at least 20″ above them.
Mirrors
As a general guideline, they should be installed between 42 inches above the finished floor, measured to the bottom edge of the mirror. Mirrors typically are centred over sinks or vanity countertops, but this can vary according to the bathroom layout and mirror size.
Soap Dish or Dispenser
Soap dishes should be installed between 44 and 54 inches above the finished floor and should be positioned out of the shower spray. A soap dispenser must be installed at a minimum of 40 inches and a maximum of 48 inches above the floor. The dispenser’s push-button should be no more than 44 inches above the floor.
Toilet Paper Holder
The standard height of a toilet paper holder is 26″ from the floor, making it comfortably accessible. Also, it needs to have a distance of 12″ from the rim.
Wall Cabinets
Bathroom wall cabinets are normally installed at 54″ above the floor. This provides 18″ of clearance above a standard 36″ tall vanity (with countertop).
